Artist Statement

This photo is designed to reflect stereotypes about secrecy, especially among teenagers. The picture features "wholesome" objects on the left side, like a prom picture, ultimate Frisbee disc, "save the oceans" bracelet, a statue of Yoda, a Snorkeling card, and several outdoors club cards. On the right side, it features more "wild" objects, such as a "pirated CD", knife, pills, "condoms" (teabags), an R rated movie stub (purchased underage), and a pair of car keys (for sneaking out).

The objects are purposely divided down the middle to show that many people have a side of themselves that is not shown to others, especially teenagers, who often hide many of their activities from parents because they seek independence, and secrecy is the most effective way to get it, especially if the parents dont approve of what the teen wants to do.
